Govt urged to appoint garda ombudsman

The Human Rights Commission has urged the Government to appoint an independent garda ombudsman to investigate complaints against the gardai.

Fianna Fáil and the Progressive Democrats pledged to establish a garda 'inspectorate' in their programme for Government.
