Revenue names tax defaulters
The Revenue authorities today published a list of nearly 90 defaulters who settled their liabilities in the final three months of last year.
The 88 people involved paid up total tax, interest and penalties amounting to €10.09m, and the list included 31 holders of bogus non-resident bank accounts who between them returned almost €4.3m to the Revenue Commissioners.
The largest settlement involved an investor in a controversial offshore investment scheme operated by the National Irish Bank.
Oliver Brennan, a company director from Mullingar, Co Westmeath, settled more than €1.3m in tax, interest, and penalties following an investigation of his investment account.
The tax defaulters’ list appeared in the latest edition of the Government’s official publication.
It also reported that a total of €36m was collected from another 3,482 smaller cases, but only the names of those who have been directed to pay more than €12,700 to the Revenue Commissioners were published.
The latest list means that a total of 272 tax defaulters had their names published by the Commissioners last year.
