The main witness in the current phase of the Morris Tribunal has revealed that a statement she gave to the Court of Criminal Appeal last year was factually incorrect.

Sheenagh McMahon insisted today that her husband, Detective Noel McMahon, told her that gardai allowed a bomb to be carried across the border in order to protect the identity of one of their informers.

However last year, Mrs McMahon told the Court of Criminal Appeal that another detective, Sergeant Des Walsh, had informed her about the bomb and the fact that gardai had not prevented its transportation.

The device injured four people when it exploded outside Strabane courthouse in Co Tyrone in 1993.

It was allegedly moved across the border by garda informer Adrienne McGlinchey, who is due to take the stand at the tribunal later today.
