McMahon accused of lying to Morris Tribunal
Lawyers for a detective at the centre of garda corruption allegations in Co Donegal have accused the detective's wife of lying to the Morris Tribunal set up to investigate the claims.
Sheenagh McMahon, the wife of Detective Noel McMahon, told the tribunal yesterday that her husband and Superintendent Kevin Lennon stored bags containing explosives in the shed at their home in Buncrana in the early 1990s.
However, Mr McMahon's solicitor claimed today that the bags contained second-hand clothes given to the McMahons by the Lennon family. The solicitor said Mrs McMahon got offended when hand-me-downs were given to her husband by the Lennons on a previous occasions, so Mr McMahon told her that the bags contained material relating to his job.
Mrs McMahon, who is currently in the witness box, rejected the accusations and described the solicitor's claims as the wildest story she had ever heard.
