The Union of Students in Ireland has claimed that Irish students are more susceptible to suicide than their European counterparts.

The USI said today that Ireland is second-placed in a worldwide 'league table' of under 25s who take their own lives.

USI president Colm Jordan said students from small rural areas and students living on their own are among the most susceptible social groups.

He insisted that all students are under huge financial pressure and further pressure to secure their qualifications and a job.
