Two shot in Limerick feud
One man was shot dead and another seriously injured in an apparent gangland attack in Limerick tonight.
The incident happened as the search continued for two brothers, missing since being abducted in Limerick nearly a week ago in what police believe to be part of a feud between families involved in criminal activities.
The latest outbreak of violence happened at Drumbanna, a village just outside Limerick.
One of the men was found at a roadside and another at a house nearby.
The dead man, who was in his 40s, was known to police and understood to be a member of one of the families caught up in the bloody feud.
The condition of the second man, who is in his 30s, was said to be critical in hospital.
The shootings were the latest in a series of violent incidents to involve criminal gangs in Ireland over the past week.
Last night a man was shot dead in a Dublin bar and late last week a taxi driver was gunned down and killed at the wheel of his vehicle in another part of the Irish capital.
Both victims were known criminals.
Meanwhile, a sixth day of searching in Limerick today uncovered no signs of 20-year-old Eddie Ryan and his brother Kieran, 19.
The two were driven off in a car after being confronted by masked gunmen in the city last Thursday night.
The missing men’s father was shot dead in a Limerick bar two years ago.
