Teenager dies from accident injuries

A teenage boy critically injured in a car crash which killed a Dublin taxi driver today died in hospital.

The 16-year-old, who has not been named, was one of three youths travelling in a stolen car that was in collision with Robert McGowan’s taxi in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Father-of-one Mr McGowan, 30, of Drimnagh, was killed instantly in the city centre crash.

Police said the teenager died at St James’s Hospital in Dublin at around 10.30am today.

Yesterday, the two other 16-year-old boys travelling in the stolen car were remanded in custody pending further directions from the DPP.

One was charged with stealing a car, while the other was charged with travelling in a stolen vehicle.

Dublin Children’s Court was told that more serious charges were likely to be brought against the boy charged with stealing the car.

Both teenagers had been arrested at Dublin’s Mater Hospital, where they were admitted following the collision.

None of the youths could be named for legal reasons.
