An Post set to clear Christmas card backlog

Up to 1,000,000 Christmas cards and greetings have yet to be delivered by An Post because of a glitch in a new computerised sorting system.

The new hi-tech computer sorting system, which cost an estimated €90m, is unable to handle letters in coloured envelopes and has encountered difficulties with handwritten letters, as well as outsized postcards.
