Policing board accused of cover-up

The Democratic Unionist Party has accused the North's policing board of trying to cover up the reason why a PSNI Special Branch commander quit last month.

Party spokesman Ian Paisley Jnr has claimed that members of the board were misled about chief superintendent Bill Lowry's early retirement from the force.

Mr Paisley has called for a full investigation of the matter.

He claimed: "There has been an attempt to cover up and prevent the right to an inquiry into Bill Lowry's retirement."

Mr Lowry, who oversaw the investigation into alleged IRA intelligence gathering in Stormont, has already lodged his own complaint with the policing board.
