A man has been arrested after a hit-and-run crash which killed an Irish exchange student in Mississippi.

A man has been arrested after a hit-and-run crash which killed an Irish exchange student in Mississippi.

Police said Michael Kramm, 27, was charged with drunken driving and leaving the scene of the accident in Biloxi.

The crash killed Treacy Staunton, 20, an exchange student from Dublin who attended William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Police said Kramm was accused of slamming his 4X4 vehicle into a car carrying Staunton and four other students while it was stopped at a red light.

Police said Staunton died from head injuries a short time after the accident. The other students were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.

Police said Kramm left the scene but was arrested a short time later. He was in custody today.
