Flood aid scheme extended to Cork
The Government has announced that victims of overnight flooding in the Cork area will be allowed to avail of the aid scheme set up following serious flooding in Dublin earlier this month.
The extent of the damage in Cork will be assessed in the coming days.
The situation in the city has improved vastly this morning, with the high tide causing no major problems.
However, there was some flooding in Blackpool because the river couldn't enter the sea due to the high tide.
Carrigaline, Togher, Crosshaven Road and Watergrasshill all suffered flooding overnight, but are now passable.
In Dublin, meanwhile, the heavy rain is still causing severe traffic disruption, but the flooding is not as bad as that experienced at the start of the month.
Very wet surfaces have been reported in Stepaside and the Ballyogan Road is closed, as is the Old Dun Laoghaire Road between Dun Laoghaire and Salthill DART stations.
Flooding has also been reported on the Old Ballinteer Road towards the M50 at Wycombe Way and on the N11 at Loughlinstown, which has caused severe tailbacks in the Bray direction.
