A 25-year-old labourer today denied an attempt on another man’s life in a shooting in Limerick city in 1998.

A 25-year-old labourer today denied an attempt on another man’s life in a shooting in Limerick city in 1998.

At the Central Criminal Court, Mr David McCarthy, of O’Callaghan Ave, Kileely, Limerick pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of Mr Patrick McNamara (aged 47) at Craeval Park, Moyross in Limerick on June 11, 1998.

He also pleaded not guilty to two charges of intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Mr McNamara and to engaging in conduct which created a risk of death or serious harm to Mr McNamara.

He further denied the unlawful possession of a double-barrel sawn-off shot gun and possession of the shotgun with intent to endanger life on the same date.

A jury of six men and six women were sworn in to hear the trial, which begins before Mr Justice Paul Carney this afternoon.
