Flooding leaves Athlone residents homeless

Scores of people were housed in the Athlone Institute of Technology overnight after flooding in the midlands town left their homes uninhabitable.

The flooding happened after the River Shannon burst its banks due to heavy rainfall in the Willow Park area over the weekend.
