Organ retention group issues final warning

The Parents for Justice Group has warned that this evening is the last chance for the Minister for Health to stop them pulling out of the Dunne inquiry into organ retention.

The group, who represent more than 2,000 parents affected by the organ retention controversy, are to meet with the Minister later this evening to demand that the inquiry to be given statutory powers.

Spokesperson for the group, Fionnula O'Reilly says the Minister must honour his previous promises.

"We do have clear assurances from this Minister for Health that he will consider a statutory format to this inquiry in the second phase perhaps in front of an Oireachtas committee on Health and Children or conversion of the Dunne enquiry into a full statutory inquiry," she said.

"We are calling on him today to honour those assurances. It's easy to talk to bereaved families, it's much harder to put our money where your mouth is and to translate those words into action."
