Taoiseach warns of 'vacuum' in North

Bertie Ahern today warned of the dangers of “vacuums and tensions” emerging in the Northern Ireland peace process if the province’s political institutions are suspended for too long.

Northern Ireland Secretary Dr John Reid is expected to announce suspension tomorrow morning, following a string of recent controversies including Sinn Féin’s alleged spying operation at Stormont.
