Green Party calls for ban on advertising to children under 12

The Green Party has marked today, National Children’s Day, by hitting out at the marketing practices used to sell products, particularly those of high sugar content, to children.

According to Eamon Ryan, marketing aimed at children from companies such as Nestle, continues to present an imbalanced nutritional message.

“Certain countries have actually banned advertising to children under the age of 12 because of the point that a lot of those children don't actually understand the difference between advertising and ordinary programmes.

"If we can't go that far then we would support such a move.

"We think at least that there should be at restriction on advertising products with high sugar content,” he said.
