Gardai are still appealing for information about two women who escaped from Mountjoy prison yesterday.

Both women from the Dochas centre, used a fire extinguisher to break through reinforced glass and then escaped on foot in the direction of Phibsboro.

They are in their twenties and from the Dublin area.

They were both serving 18 months for assault and were due for release in January.

The Prison Service has said they were on a pre-release programme when they escaped.

It is now thought that security guards only noticed they were missing after they were spotted on the Phibsboro road yesterday evening at 5pm.
