Civil service union rejects benchmarking

The union who represent civil servants in Ireland have decided to reject the benchmarking report.

At a conference in Dublin, the Civil and Public Service Union who represent lower grades within the work have decided to refer the report to the equality authority.

In addition, the union are threatening industrial action if their concerns are not addressed.

The Civil and Public Service Union maintain that the 9% increase in pay that was recommended for their sector is not sufficient.

They want increases allotted in line with higher-ranking workers who received a 13% rise.

They claim the awards discriminate between lower paid workers who are generally female, and high paid staff who are predominantly male.
