Two sex attackers indecently assaulted a 15-year-old girl as she walked to school yesterday, gardai said.

The teenager was going to school in Galway when she was approached from behind by one of the men.

He overpowered her and dragged her into a narrow lane where an accomplice was waiting. Both men then indecently assaulted her, said Superintendent Tony Finnerty.

But the girl managed to break free, kicking one of the men before fleeing to a nearby railway station where she raised the alarm.

Mr Finnerty said: “This girl was walking in Eyre Square at around 8.15am when she was grabbed from behind by a man and dragged into St Patrick’s Avenue.

“There was a second man present and she was indecently assaulted by the two men.”

The officer praised the girl for managing to escape and he appealed for witnesses to the incident.

“There is a very good description of one of the culprits,” said Mr Finnerty.

“He is in his late 30s and has dark brown hair which is described as messy. He has very bushy eyebrows and he was wearing a dark grey PVC jacket,” he added.

Officers sealed off the crime scene as they hunted for forensic clues.
