Suspect pigs flying to Waterford

Fifty fibreglass pigs which had been held by customs officers in Rotterdam are now on their way to the And Pigs Will Fly fringe event at the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera.

The officers held the pigs on suspicion that they could be filled with drugs.

The pigs flew into Rotterdam from Singapore, where they were made.

They were unloaded and scanned to make sure they weren't carrying illegal substances.

Two local Waterford artists are planning to decorate the pigs before the festival opens on September 18.
