Govt planning €5-a-week rubbish tax

Environment Minister Martin Cullen is reportedly preparing to tax every Irish household €5 per week for refuse collections by the end of 2006.

According to the reports, Mr Cullen believes this approach is consistent with the "polluter pays" principle. He also believes it will help encourage efficient waste management and recycling.
