Barnados outline guidelines for parents in relation to abductions

Ireland’s Agency for children, Barnados, has outlined guidelines for parents in relation to child abductions.

It comes in the wake of a number of attempted abductions in Dundalk earlier this week and during the hunt which is continuing in Britain for two girls who have been missing for five nights.

Barnados is advising parents that along with teaching children not to talk to or take lifts from strangers parents should also take regular photos of their children and always know where they are and who they are with.

Chief Executive of Barnados, Owen Keenan, says self confidence is the most important thing to teach children as a predator will more easily lure a child with low self-esteem.

"It is really important that children have high self esteem and confidence and are able to say ‘No’ to any situation they are represented with."
