€3m extra funding announced for tourism

The Government has announced €3m in extra funding for the tourism sector as Tourism Ireland and Bord Failte have spent their entire budgets for 2002.

The additional funding will focus on attracting tourists from Britain and continental Europe.

Tourism Minister John O'Donoghue said: "Quite bluntly, I will expect the industry to respond to this advertising initiative by offering value for money to the clients.

"This is something which is of immense importance. Also I will be seeking to ensure that standards are maintained and improved where possible."
