The ESB has announced that it is to carry out a series of audits on a number of its facilities after concerns were raised over public safety following the deaths of two Limerick students earlier this month.

The company’s safety committee has asked the Water Safety Association to investigate all aspects of safety from warning signs to the use of facilities by members of the public.

The audit will examine locations on the River Lee and on the Tailrace Section at Ardnacrusha Power Station where two teenagers drowned in tragic circumstances several weeks ago.

There is no specific time limitations on the audits which will be carried out on a national scale and will employ dozens of inspectors.
