PSNI publish first annual report today

The police service of Northern Ireland is to publish it's first annual report later today.

The report is expected to show that detection rates on crime are slipping, as a direct result of police officers being diverted to deal with street violence.

The report is also expected to state that these rates are unlikely to improve if officers continue to leave the force.

Colin Cramphorn, acting chief constable, said that this was a 'historic' year for policing in Northern Ireland, but that the redundancy of almost eight hundred officers meant that many high level skills had left the force.

Mr Cramphorn attributes the decline in detection rates to scarcity of resources in the face public disorder.

However, the acting chief constable stated that paramilitary style attacks had decreased by almost 8%.
