Blood Board to discuss executive suspensions
The board of the Irish blood transfusion service is to meet this morning with it’s national medical director, to discuss a row in which two of its senior executives were suspended.
The decision by the Board to suspend its Chief Executive, Martin Hynes, follows a meeting between both parties last week.
Two weeks ago, Mr Hynes suspended the head of the Cork service, Dr Joan Power but this was later overturned by the Board.
It followed allegations that Dr Power had refused to hand over files relating to infected donors to the Dublin HQ.
At a special meeting earlier last week, the Board decided that it would meet with each of the Blood Bank's main executives separately, Mr Hynes, Dr Willie Murphy the Medical Director and Dr Joan Power.
The board is already facing legal action from one of the individuals involved.
