Activists to speak out about Mayday probe

Anti-capitalist activists will give their reaction later today to the beginning of an internal garda investigation into the alleged excessive use of force during a Mayday march last month.

Scores of protestors were injured when Gardai baton-charged a Reclaim the Streets rally on Dame Street on May 6.

One of the officers who was caught on video-tape was later re-assigned to desk duties pending the outcome of an inquiry.

Gardai have received dozens of complaints from people who were beaten on the march.

Gardai say the investigation into the matter shouldn’t take any longer than six months.
