Gang fights stopped by Police in Belfast

Police in the North have broken up skirmishes between loyalist and nationalist gangs.

Police were called into the North Queen Street area of North Belfast after it emerged that rival gangs were squaring up against each other.

Republicans claim that the trouble started after loyalists erected a Union Jack in the area.

They also accused police of pushing back nationalists crowds as loyalists followed in behind police lines.

It’s reported that there is a heavy police force in the area with about 15 jeeps.

The North Belfast area has been relatively quiet until the last 24 hours.
