A recount is underway in Cork South Central where only three votes separate hopeful candidates Kathy Sinnott and John Dennehy.

Independent Kathy Sinnott had originally beaten Dennehy by three votes for the final seat in a dramatic count.

The recount resumed at 5pm and the returning officer is aggregating figures following a re-examination of disputed ballots.

Meanwhile, a recount is due to begin in Cavan/Monaghan tomorrow morning.
