Fine Gael’s Jim Higgins has claimed that Iarnród Eireann is planning to lay off up to 350 temporary workers after the general election because of a €25m deficit at the company.

Fine Gael’s Jim Higgins has claimed that Iarnród Eireann is planning to lay off up to 350 temporary workers after the general election because of a €25m deficit at the company.

Mr Higgins claimed that Iarnród Eireann was told last week that no funding will be made available to meet the shortfall.

He called on Public Enterprise Minister Mary O’Rourke to make a full statement on the matter.
