Man held over taxi driver killing

A leading republican was arrested today for questioning about the murder of a Catholic taxi driver in Co Tyrone earlier this week.

The arrest came as Barney McDonald, 51, who was shot dead in his cab in Donaghmore on Wednesday, was due to be buried in nearby Dungannon.

His family have blamed the Provisional IRA for the killing, saying he had been involved in a row with a member of the organisation a week before his death.

Police said the man arrested this morning was detained at his home in the Dungannon area.
