Aqua centre row: Pressure mounting on Teahon

The future of Paddy Teahon at the helm of Sports Council Ireland hangs in the balance this evening.

The cabinet was given a lengthy report into the handling of contracts for the Aquatic centre today and the issue is to be discussed again next week.

Sports Minister, Jim McDaid is set to meet Mr Teahon and the Board of CSID this evening. Minister McDaid stopped short of asking for Mr Teahon’s resignation earlier today.

It emerged earlier that the Attorney General’s report into the awarding of contracts for the National Stadium Aquatic centre will not be published today.

Opposition parties had been demanding the full publication of the report on the centre in Abbotstown.

The Cabinet is being briefed on Michael McDowell's 10-day inquiry into the selection of a dormant company to operate the facility.

Labour leader Ruairi Quinn has accused the Taoiseach of trying to dodge questions on the fiasco by transferring Dáil requests on the issue to the Tourism Minister, Jim McDaid.

Fine Gael's sports spokesman Charlie Flanagan has said he believes several questions need to be answered by Bertie Ahern.
