Students go on strike at school in Co Mayo

Students at a secondary school in Castlebar, Co Mayo, have gone on strike outside the school building in protest at the ongoing dispute between the Government and the Association of Secondary Teachers.

400 non-exam students were sent home from St Gerard’s College yesterday because of the absence of seven teachers.

The school reopened for all pupils this morning, but around 500 have joined the protest because they believe the long-running dispute is affecting their education.
