Nurses in the accident and emergency department of one of Dublin’s biggest hospitals began a work-to-rule tonight in a protest about overcrowding.

The action went ahead at Tallaght hospital as two nursing trade unions were in talks with Irish health minister Micheal (correct) Martin in a bid to head off a nationwide dispute over the issue.
