Three Irish backpackers are among a group of 40 tourists currently trapped in Bolivia by farmers protesting against the Government’s war on the cultivation of the coca plant.

The tourists, who also include three Britons, two Germans, two Belgians, six Israelis and a number of Americans, have been trapped in the Sorata Valley since the farmers blocked the main road through the area three weeks ago.
