Container victims may be a Turkish family

The eight refugees found dead in a freight container in Wexford are believed to be Turkish, and could all be from the same family.

A lorry driver discovered the eight dead and five more unconscious in the container this morning.

It's thought they were smuggled into the container to start a new life as refugees in the West.

Post mortems are now being carried out on the eight. Five more are in a critical condition in Wexford Hospital.

The surviving victims are four males, aged between 17 and 35 and a female in her 40s.

Gardai say documentation found in the container indicates the victims are Turkish nationals.

A spokesman said: "These people are part of families, there are two children dead in there."

The container originated in Milan and began its journey on November 30.

A lorry driver who picked up the container made the grim discovery.
