ASTI urge teachers to reject pay offer
The central executive of the Association of Secondary Teachers is recommending the rejection of the Government’s pay offer for supervision and substitution duties and the possibility of co-operating with the benchmarking scheme.
The 180 member committee met in Dublin today to discuss clarifications they received on the offer. Over 17,000 secondary teachers will vote on the revised offer in a nationwide ballot of members on the third week of January.
The ASTI had previously rejected the Government’s £27-per-hour non-pensionable pay offer for supervision and substitution duties, which are currently undertaken voluntarily.
The union has also boycotted the Government’s benchmarking scheme, but was today expected to discuss the possibility of pursuing its 30% pay claim through this scheme.
