Medical expert slated at tribunal
The man widely regarded as the founder of modern haemophiliac treatment in Ireland has received stringing criticism at the Lindsay Tribunal.
The Irish Haemophiliac Society have accused Professor Ian Temperley of repeated negligence towards haemophiliacs here.
Professor Temperley was the Director of the National Haemophilia Treatment Centre and a Blood Bank board member throughout the 1980’s.
IHS Senior Council Martin Hayden has said that Professor Temperley, who was in charge of treatment policy in Ireland, sanctioned and encouraged the continued use of unsafe blood products even after it was known they carried HIV and hepatitis viruses.
He said the Professor also failed to tell haemophiliacs their positive HIV status when they finally had been tested.
