O'Donoghue announces independent garda complaints body

Justice Minister John O’Donoghue has announced the establishment of an independent inspectorate to replace the much-criticised Garda Complaints Board.

Under the complaints board, gardai investigated complaints against their fellow officers, a system that has been criticised by human rights activists worldwide.
