Sinn Fein has demanded that the Irish Government lodge a complaint with its British counterparts after British army helicopters entered the Republic in Hackballscross, Co Louth today.

Sinn Fein has demanded that the Irish Government lodge a complaint with its British counterparts after British army helicopters entered the Republic in Hackballscross, Co Louth today.

It is the second British army incursion into Irish territory this year. In August, a foot patrol of British soldiers entered the republic, claiming they had made a map-reading error.

Louth County Councillor Arthur Morgan said: “It is unacceptable that the British army continues to patrol nationalist areas of the six counties. To cross the border is simply a disgrace.

"The Government must stop accepting British excuses of map-reading errors. They must demand that Britain stop this practice. This action again stands as a stark reminder that the British Government are not serious about demilitarisation.”
