Security is tight as the State funerals for ten volunteers executed during the War of Independence get underway in Dublin.

President Mary McAleese, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Cardinal Cahill Daly will lead mourners at the service in the Pro-Cathedral.

The funeral starts at the prison with a prayer service conducted by the prison chaplain attended by relatives and the Justice Minister John O'Donoghue.

Soon the hearses, with an army motor vehicle escort, will move through Dublin City stopping at the GPO where a ceremony will take place.

The next stop will be at the Pro-Cathedral for a service conducted by Cardinal Daly before moving on to the Garden of Rememberance and Glasnevin cemetry.

There, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will give the graveside oration.
