Use of Shannon to be offered to US

Foreign Affairs minister Brian Cowen is this weekend finalising the plan to offer Irish airports for use by America in its war on terrorism.

However, it is understood this offer will not involve actual warplanes – it will only cover troop carriers and cargo flights.
