Gardai investigate alleged holiday rape by Garda
A liaison officer of the Garda Siochana is travelling to Tenerife this morning to examine the case of a Garda under investigation for the alleged rape of a young Irish woman on the island.
The 23-year-old victim from Sligo arrived home today after the alleged attack, during which she is understood to have suffered severe facial injuries.
The young woman claims she met the 26-year-old Dublin-based Garda in a pub on the south of the island.
She claims to have been raped and beaten during the alleged attack, and left suffering a broken jaw and facial bruising.
The Garda liaison officer will establish the facts of the case and report back to commissioner Pat Byrne.
Meanwhile, the Garda at the centre of the allegation is still being held in police custody and has been questioned by a magistrate.
