Government clampdown on welfare fraud pays off

A crackdown on social welfare fraud saved taxpayers £109m during the first six months of this year.

The Department of Social, Family and Community Affairs says investigations into unemployment fraud alone made up half of that figure.

Three people were jailed this year for dole fraud, including one person who had claimed £21,000 in unemployment assistance.
