More IT jobs to go by end of year

Experts are this morning predicting further job losses in the high tech sector before the end of the year.

Davy Stockbrokers have predicted that a further 2,000 workers will see their jobs go.

The prediction comes as Tanaiste Mary Harney travels to Cork to kickstart efforts to replace the 670 jobs lost at General Semiconductor in Macroom.

Officials from FAS and the IDA will accompany the Tanaiste.

Meanwhile, an announcement on interest rates is expected from the United States today amid an expectation that officials will make another attempt to kickstart the global economy.
