Oil spill clean-up proves successful
Officials have claimed success in ending a pollution threat to Dublin's River Liffey following a road accident involving an oil tanker.
Around 20,000 litres of diesel leaked into the Liffey and a section of motorway had to be closed.
Absorbent booms were positioned in the river, the diesel was vacuumed from the surface and no fish were killed.
Dublin City engineer Michael Phillips said: "We were able to respond to the incident very rapidly and quickly had all the equipment in place."
Yesterday's accident also involved a lorry and two cars, but no-one was badly hurt.
