The Special Criminal Court has heard that gardai, the FBI and British Intelligence are preparing evidence for the trial of the Co Louth man who is accused of being the leader of the so-called Real IRA.

51-year-old Michael McKevitt, with an address at Beech Park, Blackrock, Dundalk, made a brief appearance at the court today, where he was remanded in custody until October 2.

The court also heard that the book of evidence had been served on the accused, but that the material is substantial, involving three security agencies from different jurisdictions and would not be ready until October.

The evidence includes documents from David Rupert, an FBI agent who met McKevitt after he successfully infiltrated the Real IRA and attended their Army Council meetings.
