Victim of work explosion named

The man who was killed in an explosion in Co Cavan yesterday has been named by the Gardai.

The man who was killed in an explosion in Co Cavan yesterday has been named by the Gardai.

He was 48-year-old Martin Kirwan from Crettyard in Co Carlow.

He died in the explosion at the Lakeland Dairies plant in Killeshandra in which another worker was severely injured.

The accident occurred as the two men were carrying out contract maintenance work on an oil storage tank at the plant and an investigation into the incident is being carried out.

The other man is still in a stable condition at St James’s Hospital in Dublin after he suffered from burns.
