ESB to defend itself against deafness claims

The ESB faces a High Court challenge today from an employee in connection with work-related deafness.

The worker, who is based at the Poolbeg generating station in Dublin, claims his hearing has suffered because of the high noise levels that exist in his working environment.

Mr Bernard Farrell’s case is just one of about 50 faced by the ESB.

If the claims are successful, they could cost the ESB more than £1m.
