Gardai have allocated a 55-strong team of detectives and Gardai to the search for the £3,000,000 haul of paintings that was taken from Co Wicklow’s Russborough House yesterday.

The 20 detectives and 35 Gardai will examine closed circuit television footage and a number of clues that were left behind by the gang after they appeared to panic after the robbery.

It was the third robbery that was carried out on the collection in Russborough House but Gardai are understood to remain confident of solving the case.

The gang failed to properly set fire to a Pajero jeep that was used to ram open the doors of the house and a set of gloves that are believed to have been used in the raid were also found.

The Gardai are currently trying to trace the movements of the two vehicles used in the robbery, the Mitsubishi Pajero and a light blue Volkswagen Golf.
